Why you may call me a Trendsetter

  • Started my personal countdown for the first Space Shuttle orbital flight in 1972, nine years before the liftoff.
  • Bought my first home computer (ABC80) in spring 1979, two and a half years before the IBM PC was introduced.
  • In 1980 there was a referendum about nuclear power in Sweden. The absolute majority of voters and parlamentarian politicians said that nuclear power would be phased out with the year 2010 as an “end date”. The same year I predicted that this would never happen, and I became right. In 2010 8 out of 10 nuclear power plants are still in use, and several of them are upgraded to produce more energy.
  • Became a windsurfer in 1980.
  • Started using online services (forums, e-mail etc) in 1981.
  • Became highly interested in international economics and -politics in 1982. I started to define myself as a globalist and internationalist eight years before the European Union started to grow rapidly, including Sweden. Then many more people around me got interested in these important matters.
  • Started working full time as a programmer for online services in 1984. Wrote programs used in e-commerce applications, e-mail systems etc.
  • During the spring and summer of 1987 I told everyone I met that there would probably be a stock market crash in the autumn of that same year. The Black Monday happened in October 19, 1987.
  • Travelled by bus from Stockholm, Sweden to New Delhi, India in 1987. Has since then defined myself as a global citizen.
  • Invented a variant of the sport Parkour in 1988. Parkour became widespread and popular almost 20 years later.
  • In November 1989 I participated in the international conference Food for peace in Germany (right after the fall of the Berlin wall), uniting farmers, politicians and consumers from all over the world. Exactly 20 years later, in November 2009, the FAO held a similar conference World Summit on Food Security.
  • Set up my first web sites in 1996. One of them was rated among the 100 best Swedish websites by several magazines.
  • Worked as a marketer and PR consultant for Scandinavian car sharing organisations in 2002. Talked about car sharing in Swedish national TV (in a popular show with 1 million viewers). Car sharing will probably be an important part of the urban transport systems in the near future.
  • Invented the concept of  microblogging in October 2005, six months before Jaiku and nine months before Twitter.
  • A couple of years ago I predicted that unhealthy living (bad food, smoking, living in polluted environments, to much stress etc) can affect our genes, and be forwarded to our children and grandchildren. In 2010 scientists presented facts and theories about how all genes “remembers” things that people, creatures, plants etc. has gone through in their environment. This new science is called epigenetics. And, yes, smoking is bad for yourself, your children and your grandchildren…!
  • Has always been an “early adopter” of new ideas, technology, music, fashion and much more…

To be honest I also start some things later than many others - I had my first girlfriend at the age of 27. September 2007 was the first time ever that I started to plan my life ahead for more than just a month. And I started my first blog (this one) in April 2009.
